Picturesque and beautiful in nature and culture, Rabong, a small sub-divisional town in South Sikkim has in the last decade out grown from its image as a sleepy little hamlet, a mere transit that falls along the south and west Sikkim state highway. While it was considered only a mere stopover for a hot lunch or for a quick snack in the past, visitors at present make it a point to spend several days to idle away their time in the serene confines of mother nature.

Today it is a centre of developmental activities taking shape in myriad forms and has ascended the tourism graph as a major destination in Sikkim.

Ra-bong literally means the wet goat (ra: goat bong:wet.)
Rabong more popularly known as Rabong/Rabongla/Ravangla is situated at 7016 feet from above sea level on the foothills of the Meanam Hills in South Sikkim. A ridge between the two highest hills in the state,the legendary Tendong and Meanam hills,the place is known for its scenic landscape and picturesque beauty and has over the years grown as an ideal tourist destination. It is located about 65 kilometers wouth of Gangtok and falls along the state highway to South and West District of the state. It is connected by Singtam an important trading and Transit Township and the South District headquarters of Namchi by close distance.

The genesis of the town started from a small trading place for local farmers who produced agricultural produce and cash crops like Ginger and large Cardamom. Today its stature has grown from a rural market to a sub-divisional town.
It presently houses all the important government offices as a sub-divisional headquarter of the South District and is one of the bigger townships in the district with trade and commerce flourishing in the area. The hospitality sector, adventure and culture of this area which has its own charm have grown as a major industry here.
